Grayson ran into his house and flew up the stairs. On his way, his mom asked him how his day was and he just said, “I don’t remember,” as he opened his door and plopped on his bed. Today was the worst day, he thought to himself. That was when he felt his bed to shake and he knew what was happening next. He knew when he opened his eyes his best friend and favorite stuffy, Trex, the traveling Dino, would be right next to him.
A little smile crossed his face when he opened his eyes and Trex was smiling back at him.
“Hey bruh, what’s the matter?” Trex asked
That made Grayson laugh a little bit because he knew Trex was trying to be cool.
“Trex, I’m so glad you are here, I’ve missed you!” He said as he picked him up for a giant hug.
“I’ve missed you too.” Trex replied, “Wow, that’s a big hug, I can’t breathe.”
“Sorry!” Grayson said as he sat him down.
“Now, tell me what’s bothering you.”
Grayson sighed and was trying to figure out how to say what happened., “Today was awful.”
“How was it awful?”
“Today at recess Emily was crying and when I walked over to her to ask her what’s wrong, she said her best friend Kelly told her she was ugly because she had to get glasses.”
“That is so sad, what did you tell her?”
“That’s the awful part, I just sat there with no words. I had no idea what to say.” Grayson answered, “ Why would Kelly say something so mean?”
“I don’t know why she would say something so mean, but I think I know who can help us.” Trex exclaimed and then jumped into his arms and the room started spinning.
That got Grayson excited because he knew when the tornado started swirling he was going somewhere awesome.
When they landed Grayson had no idea where they were. It looked like they were in a rocky desert somewhere. Off in the background he could see rolling hills and water.
“Trex, where are we?” he asked
“We are in Galilee, see over there, that’s the Sea of Galilee where Jesus walked on water.” Trex answered
Grayson was in awe, “No way! That’s where Jesus walked on water? That’s so cool”
“Yep, that’s where I will eventually walk on water.” A man’s voice from behind Grayson stated.
Grayson nearly jumped out of his tennis shoes. He looked behind him and there was a man with dark hair wearing what he thought was called a Tunic. Was that Jesus?
“Jesus?” Grayson asked with a shake in his voice
The man laughed, “That’s me.”
He had looked exactly like Grayson had always imagined he would.
“Jesus!” Grayson exclaimed and ran into his arms. It felt like he always imagined it would, like he was home and being hugged by his dad.
“Grayson, it’s so nice to meet you! Trex, what brings you back here?” Jesus asked Trex like he’d known him forever.
“Trex, you’ve been here before?” Grayson asked
“I have, and most likely as you get older we will be back. Jesus does have all the answers.” Trex said with a chuckle, “Jesus what brings us here is Grayson needs some help.”
Jesus sat down on a rock nearby and motioned for Grayson to sit next him, “What do you need help with?”
Grayson sat down next to him, “Well today at recess Emily was crying because Kelly called her ugly and I had no idea how to respond. I just stood there shocked that someone would say something so mean. Luckily, the bell rang and I didn’t have to answer, but I felt so bad that I just said nothing.”
Jesus sat quietly for a minute before answering, “That is a toughy. Sometimes, we just don’t have the words to say, that’s when you should pray to God and ask him for words.”
“I can do that!” Grayson asked, shocked.
“You can, he loves it when his kids ask him that, plus then he gets to show off a little by giving you the words. Although sometimes, his kids don’t say the words perfectly, but that’s ok.” Jesus told him.
Grayson chuckled, “I feel like I never say them perfectly. So in this situation should I have just quietly prayed to myself?”
“Yes, you could have done that or you could have sat down next to her and just said, can I pray for you, and pray together.”
“You mean pray together out loud!” Grayson said, “I don’t know if I’m ready for that.”
Jesus laughed, “Of course you are Grayson, pray like you are talking to me right now, like I’m right there next to you.”
“But it’s so much easier to talk to you in person.”
“Of course it is, but when you leave here, I won’t be right next to you, but I will be in your heart. I will give you the words to say.” Jesus says hugging him, “You see Grayson, I loved you before you were even born. Before you even say a word, I know it. You were fearfully and wonderfully made and so was Emily.”
“Fearfully?” Grayson questioned
Jesus laughed again, “Yep, fearfully meaning when you look in the mirror and when Emily looks in the mirror you will be awe because I created you perfectly. I know Emily had to get glasses, but she needs to remember because of those glasses she can now look in the mirror and see clearly how beautiful she is because I created her.”
“I think I get it.” Grayson said, “But sometimes when I look in the mirror I see the flaws and I’m sure Emily does too, how do I get past that?”
“I hate how so many can’t get past their flaws, but I pray every moment that eventually when they look in the mirror they will see they are flawless.” Jesus said with tears in his eyes.
“You pray for us?” Grayson asked shocked that Jesus prays for him.
“Of course I do and I will always be praying for you Grayson and everyone that they will see how my light can shine through them. That’s my ultimate prayer. I want everyone to see how awesome my love is.”
“I love you, Jesus!” Grayson said and hugged him
“I love you too, Grayson, now it’s time for me to go help my disciples, I feel a storm is coming.” He said with a wink and walked away.
“Wow! Trex, this is the best adventure by far” Grayson said as Trex jumped into his arms and the next thing Grayson knew he was back home. “I can’t wait till tomorrow to tell Emily how fearfully and wonderfully made she is!” Grayson said, hugging Trex.
“And I will be here praying for you!” Trex said
The End!
Always Smile,
Michelle
